Facedeals Brings More Minority Report-Type Tech

It disturbs me just a tad how often I seem to refer to the 2002 SciFi drama Minority Report when blogging about new technology; gesture-based computer interfaces, crime prediction software and so on. Director Steven Spielberg must have had some clairvoyant futurists consulting on that film. A new system called Facedeals uses facial recognition technology and Facebook profile information in participating stores to target users of the app with deals based upon their perceived likes and buying habits.

In the movie, people would be routinely have their retinas scanned to identify them and target ads and offers to...hey, wait a minute!
