Getting Closer To A Smartphone

I write about smartphones fairly often here, but I not not own one; basically because they are typically expensive to buy and maintain, and I am a cheapskate. However, I can see that changing as Virgin Mobile now has an entry-level Android phone for $80. I already use Virgin Mobile for my clamshell phone, which is getting a bit long in the tooth - and for the initial purchase price of the smartphone, and another $10 per month for a suitable talk/data plan (total of $45), I would be all set. It will never be mistaken for an iPhone, but the specifications are fine, and it would help me to be able to respond to work emails while not relying on my notebook at home - which I can't do on my current phone.
