Voicemail Down, Texting and IM Up

USA Today published data from a Vonage study, showing that the number of voicemail messages left dropped nearly 10% over the past year and that the act of retrieving voicemanil messages fell almost 15% in the same period. It seems that in the current penchant for texting and using IM clients, people are more likely to want to read brief messages that to call and listen to them. Making lemonade out of lemons, Vonage offers a voice-to-text feature where you can have your voicemail messages "transcribed" (by a computer) and texted to you instead. Even though the "translation" process is not perfect, it's usually enough to get the gist of the message and see if it's worth an actual phone call or not.
