What Is "Do Not Track"?

Do Not Track (DNT) is a mechanism that allows you to specify, via your web browser preferences, whether web sites are allowed to use tracking cookies when you visit their site. These cookies are typically used by advertisers to give them a way of presenting ads that may interest you, based upon sites you previously visited. The web standards group World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) is finalizing the standard, and all the major web browsers now support the feature directly, except Google Chrome - which will do so very soon. There is currently a bit of a fuss over Microsoft Internet Explorer 10's implementation of DNT being out of step (quell surprise!), but that will be fixed, no doubt. How to enable No Not Track in your browser.
