Tracking The Blood Supply With RFID

The medical industry loves technology; not only can it often save them (and hopefully their patients) time and money, but it can also be a great marketing advantage if your facility has X, Y and Z technologies, when the other hospitals in town only have X and Y. A National Institutes of Health (NIH) funded project, developed by a public/private consortium and tested in Wisconsin, has come up with a new RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) and barcode-based blood product tracking technology. Pending 501(k) clearance, the suite of products should be headed to commercial production.
