eBooks Outselling Hardcover Books

The onslaught of eReaders and Tablets is bringing about a sea change in publishing. Not only are magazines such as Newsweek starting to transition to digital only editions, but for the first time hardcover books sales in the US were beaten by eBook sales in the first quarter of 2012. Apart from the obvious change in the method of delivering the product, there may follow more subtle changes in content and presentation, particularly in the magazine world. Newsweek, for example, will now be competing more directly with the likes of TMZ and the Huffington Post - so will we see a switch from the longer form, more detailed articles to snappier, more easily digested pieces? It may be a bit of a bumpy ride for a while, till everyone sorts this all out.
