Nurses, Smartphones And BYOD

A new report from Spyglass Consulting Group shows two thirds of hospitals surveyed indicate their nurses use their own mobile devices such to augment what may be available from the hospital IT department. In the business world, this trend is referred to by - yes, an acronym: BYOD. "Bring Your Own Device" means just that, using your own computer device at work instead of a company-provided one. This drives IT departments nuts, as they have little control over security and so on. Many companies are allowing it nonetheless, but in the medical sphere there are special concerns over patient data and even infection control.
