Microsoft Security Essentials - The Latest Poor Rating

For the second time in two months, Microsoft's free Security Essentials antivirus software has been given a failing grade by the AV-Test Institute. That doesn't sound good at all, and Microsoft has provided a pretty detailed defense of their product on the TechNet Malware Protection Center blog. I have used and recommended MS Security Essentials as a decent option for Windows users for some time, and so this gave me pause for thought. Regardless, many of the comments on the various reports on this story are positive with respect to MSE, and I am still using it (along with MalwareBytes Antimalware) on our primary computer here at home. If you want a free alternative, AVG Free does well in tests and is quite a bit "slimmer" than it used to be.
