Microsoft Security Essentials Tanks Another Test

Microsoft's free antivirus software for Windows - Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) - has performed poorly in a third set of comparison tests in the last few months. The first two were from AV-Test, and the most recent was from Dennis Technology Labs in the UK. Most Windows users would assume/expect that if an up-to-date and working antivirus product is installed, then they are "okay", when this is demonstrably not the case if you are only using MSE for protection (or by inference, "Defender" in Windows 8). There are other free products that perform better in the tests, and also paid products of course. I am curious whether this is a lack of attention on Microsoft's part, or an underlying problem with the MSE technology, or what?
