Remember This? Rotary Dial Phone

During the last century, the telephone was a huge piece of technology; it developed from the operator-assisted calls ("Operator? Get me Midvale 2323!") to the rotary dial phone, which reigned for many decades until touch-tone or DTMF dialing became possible during the sixties. While most baby boomers probably remember the rotary dial phone, when was a kid in the UK, we did not even have a phone in the house, and it was not that unusual in our neighborhood; there were "corner phones" (pay phones for public use), so if there was a need, a short walk and some suitable coins would do the job. Rotary phones, once so common, are now only a curiosity; something you might notice in movies. Now we carry our phones around with us, and don't think much about it...
