The Keep Calm Meme

The Internet is, perhaps, the perfect home for memes. A meme (shortened form of mimeme) is "an idea, behavior or style that spreads from person to person within a culture." In the old days, we would have called them fads, I suppose. You have probably seen them on YouTube, Facebook, et al - the "Harlem Shake" is a current YouTube example, other examples are LOLcats and Gangnam Style. One that caught my eye recently was the "Keep Calm and..." posters - I realized there was some kind of UK connection because of the familiar crown symbol (I am originally from Scotland). Turns out they are based upon World War II inspirational/propaganda posters used in the UK to keep up public morale during those dark times.
