Software Is Flexible; People Are Great

Microsoft Excel is a spreadsheet application - a computer version of an accounting worksheet that allows you to enter and manipulate various kinds of data. Pretty boring for most of us, unless it's something you use at work. However, for an older Japanese man it became an artist's easel and canvas. Tatsuo Horiuchi, who is now in his seventies, did not know much about Excel but knew it came with the computer he bought before he retired. Rather than purchase some expensive graphics software, he set about using Excel in an unconventional way, and in the years since has produced some very beautiful artwork. People are great.
