Avast! Free Antivirus 2014 - Some Pointers

Following on the disappointing sort-of-admission by Microsoft that it's free/built-in antivirus products Microsoft Security Essentials and Windows Defender (for Windows 8) are actually kinda lame, keen-eyed scrooges like myself are always up for a better free AV solution for Windows - and such is Avast Free Antivirus - now in it's 2014 incarnation. You can consult Gizmo's Freeware site for an always up-to-date section on free antivirus and security products, but you won't go far wrong with Avast!

GHacks has a helpful article with some tips on the care and feeding of Avast! Antivirus Free 2014; they give a breakdown of the settings and components of the product so you can get a better idea of what you need and may not need (this is a pretty full-featured product, after all). So head over there and take a look, why don't you? A free product and free advice!
