A Kindle Named Fiona

Many products and projects are disguised by codenames during the deveopment and testing phase; this is done for various reasons, primarily to keeps competitors in the dark. This sort of thing has been going on for years - think of the WWII D-Day codename of "Operation Overlord", for example.

More recently, Microsoft's Windows 7 codename was "Blackcomb". Sometimes these names have an origin that is more than just a meaningless or cool-sounding name, as is the case with the Amazon Kindle device.

The Kindle fell under the codename "Fiona" during it's development, and the name was taken from a character in the Sci-Fi novel "The Diamond Age", featuring a technologically advanced book.
