5 Things I Picked Up As I Toddled Along

Here are a few things I picked up along the way as I meandered through the past 50-odd years. It's not that I think I have any particular insight, but it may keep you from finding these out the hard way, like I did...

Some things are not so important
Life has become a big race, but you can only do what you can do and there are only so many hours in a day, so fill them up with good stuff. The one who dies with the most toys does not really win anything.

Some things ARE really important
Things like family, friends, God (you can plug in a few of your own here - but just a few)

It makes you and those around you feel better

Watch your weight, take care of yourself
It's exceptionally difficult to lose weight later; all the bad habits have been reinforced over the years and some of the damage may already be done anyway. Don't be crazy about it though; just don't have that second slice of pie every time.

Find your purpose - expanding on the second point in this list, it may not be something "grand", or even seem that important to others. Like Curly said in "City Slickers":

Curly: Do you know what the secret of life is? [points index finger skyward] This.
    Mitch: Your finger?
Curly: One thing. Just one thing. You stick to that and the rest don't mean shit.
Mitch: But, what is the "one thing?"
Curly: [smiles and points his finger at Mitch] That's what you have to find out.
