Family Trees For Free

I could never be mistaken for a seasoned world traveler, but I think the whole "genealogy" thing is a rather American preoccupation, perhaps because it is such a relatively young country and people like to know where they came from. If you watch TV at all, you will see plenty of commercials for Family Tree-type software, but you can also do it for free using both installable software and online resources. As usual, Gizmo's Freeware (TechSupportAlert.com) has some good ideas for you to try, and goes over the basics such as GEDCOM (GEnealogical Data COMmunication) file support, and whether the software can support same-sex relationships.
Genealogy applications provide a method for recording the subjects of our research, e.g.  their names, relationships, and events of their lives.  Evidence (citations and sources) should be recorded to support the conclusions reached.  They also print the reports and charts to show off the results of our labor.
