Things To Come - Invisible Auto Door Pillars

Blind spots in automobiles are a sore spot for many drivers, and UK auto maker Jaguar Land Rover is testing a pretty spiffy way to make some of them effectively disappear - "360 Degree Virtual Urban Windscreen" (I'm guessing they will come up with a better name over time). It's probably easier to watch the first part of the clip below than trying to explain it.
When the driver starts the car, the front two pillars become see-through thanks to cameras mounted to the outside of the vehicle and screens on the interior of the pillar. That allows the driver to see pedestrians and other vehicles approaching from the left and right. When a driver needs to look behind the vehicle -- like when she's checking her blind spot -- the middle and rear pillars become transparent.
