What Is "Android M"?

Android M is Google's code name for the next version of the Android mobile operating system for smartphones and tablets. Previous versions have had both version numbers and playful names like "Jellybean", "KitKat" and "Lollipop".  We are not sure what "M" stands for yet - something yummy, probably (Marshmallow? Moonpie?).

The new version was announce at Google's I/O event, and should become available to the public in the latter part of this year. The previews available so far are mostly showing design polish, and a few new features (and performance tweaks and fixes).
