Apple iOS 9 To Give A Battery Bump

Smartphones are power-hungry beasts, at least relative to the sliver-like batteries most of them have. In the desire to make smartphones svelte, manufacturers are currently ahead of the battery maker's ability to keep up with the demands of available power.

Software can help to some degree, and the new version of the iOS operating system (iOS 9) for mobile Apple devices has a "low power mode" designed to eke out some more time after the battery capacity falls below 20%.

Recent version of the Android mobile OS have a similar feature which kicks in when the battery is low.
