Oh, it's on now - ALL CAPS kind of on. Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards called out The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper album as rubbish:
He compared it to his own band’s album released in the same year: “Some people think [Sgt. Pepper’s is] a genius album, but I think it’s a mishmash of rubbish, kind of like Satanic Majesties—’Oh, if you can make a load of sh**, so can we.'”Mr. Richards - who at age 71 is a much older goat than even your humble blogger - expressed his curmudgeonly opinion in an interview with Esquire. Actually you can see how, from his point of view, the Beatles were something other than straight Rock and Roll, but then I don't think they ever claimed to be just that.
For you whippersnappers out there, The Rolling Stones and The Beatles were a big flippin' deal back in the day (and the Stones still sell 'em out to this day).
