What Is "Doxing"?

"Doxing" or "Doxxing" is derived from the word "document" and actually goes back to the olden days of Usenet in the 1990s. It refers to the practice of "outing" a person or groups' personal information online. This is usually done in a negative way by hackers or others to shame or expose the party in question.

A recent example that came to light would be hacker group Anonymous publishing KKK member details.
A Twitter account believed to be controlled by hackers behind the operation tweeted a link to a Pastebin containing a detailed list of names and their affiliation with local KKK groups, and links to the alleged members’ social media profiles as part of its “OpKKK.”
