Columbus, Ohio - based Wendy's hamburger chain suffered a hacking situation that has turned out to be much worse that originally reported. Instead of 1 in 20 restaurants being affected, it's actually more like 1 in 3 - a little over 1,000 out of 3000 total locations across the US.
Apparently, malware-infected point-of-sale systems (the modern equivalent of the cash register) grabbed credit and debit card information from customers beginning late 2015.
If you are wondering if your favorite haunt was infected, Wendy's has provided a way to check here.
TheRegisterThe infection was first detected in January, when banks started noticing suspicious activity on credit cards.
