The SD Card Shuffle

I confess I think SD cards are pretty cool; they are teeny-tiny solid state memory cards, and they can store an impressive amount of data. SD cards are also used in quite a range of devices, such as phones, cameras and single board computers, such as the Raspberry Pi.

While they are somewhat interchangeable, they do come in different physical sizes (Standard, Mini and Micro), different speed ratings, and different capacities. In other words, you need to be somewhat aware of what you are asking for if you find yourself in the position to purchase one.

For example, for a small drone I own I needed to get a type 10 card for the video camera. Type 10 is a speed rating, and it needed that to allow the video to be recorded smoothly.

ReviewGeek has a nice article outlining the different specifications.
