Governments Also Check "Have I Been Pwned?"

The website Have I Been Pwned? was designed to let us mere mortals find out if one of our email accounts has possibly been compromised, showing up on a list somewhere in the dark corners of cyberspace.

Apparently, some government bodies are also using this resource. Rather that be surprised, we should probably be glad that they are making the effort to try and get  a handle on the state of their email accounts - which ultimately is good news for us taxpayers.

Legend has it that the term "pwned" was originally a mis-spelling of "owned" (meaning defeated, humiliated, etc) in a videogame. The typical usage these days is to denote when an online site or account (email, etc) has been hacked or otherwise compromised.
